Awarding Body EAL

How the Business Improvement Techniques NVQ can help an individual learner or your business?

By involving employees in the improvement of business efficiency, BIT encourages a company culture that is focused on the benefits of continuous improvement, as well as ensuring a safer, more organised workplace.

Through gaining this qualification you or your employees will:

understand the concept of continuous improvement

understand how, by eliminating waste, reducing defects and organising the workplace, there can be a dramatic improvement in business performance

gain an awareness of the most up-to-date management thinking

learn to identify what needs improving, how to get to the root cause of a problem and how to go about improving it

achieve a safer organised workplace.

The BIT NVQ has two elements:

Underpinning knowledge and skills – provided by flexible class room courses

Practical work-based competence assessment – leading to an NVQ at level 2.

Who is a BIT NVQ suitable for?

This course requires an organisational approach to Business improvement. Individuals are trained to involve themselves, through effective team working in continuous improvement techniques. This qualification can be applied in any working environment from the shop floor to the office.

What you or your staff will learn?

Our BIT course explores the concept of continuous improvement. It demonstrates how eliminating waste, reducing variation and preventing defects through managing quality and process flows, can dramatically improve business performance. It covers the most up-to-date management thinking – from the Japanese 5S (work place organisation) method to the Kaizen (continuous improvement) approach – in a manner that is accessible and relevant to your employees.

The course acknowledges that there’s always room for improvement at work – be it major adjustments or small changes – and provides a range of new tools to help your employees identify what needs improving and how to improve it.

The course includes 5 mandatory units:

Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organisations Safety Requirements

Contributing to Effective Team work

Applying Workplace Organisation Techniques (5s/5c)

Applying Continuous Improvement Techniques (Kaizen)

Creating Visual Management Systems

One optional unit must also be completed:

Contributing to the Analysis and Selection of Parts for Improvement

Contributing to Carrying out Lead Time Analysis

Carrying Out Set-up Reduction Techniques

Carrying out Autonomous Maintenance

Contributing to the Application of Problem Solving Techniques

Carrying out Flow Process Analysis

Contributing to the Creation of Standard Operating Procedures

Each unit offers an in-depth view of a different area of business and the continuous improvement techniques that can bring rapid and positive results.

Entry Requirements:

The candidate must be:

In full time employment, working in a relevant job role to the criteria for the qualification

Working in a company that adheres to, or exceeds HASAW guidelines

Supported by the company allowing assessors access during the normal working period

At or working towards occupationally competency to the level of the award

Employers must be prepared to support the candidate by allowing the assessor time and access to the candidate

Employers must release the candidate to attend the underpinning knowledge sessions

Study fees for under 19’s are fully funded by the Skills Funding Agency at no cost to the employer or apprentice.

The Business Improvement Techniques NVQ programme provides industry standard National Vocational Qualifications centred on the proven tools and techniques of lean manufacturing based on the principles of Kaizen (Continuous Improvement). It is designed to support continuous improvement by promoting effective team working and developing learning skills across the wider workforce. The course will involve structured learning in the form of presentations in the workplace covering each specific unit.
